First Morning in Hong Kong

I am writing this in the Majestic Hotel in our first morning in Hong Kong on a wireless network service that puts everything in Wellington to shame (NZ$2 per hour unlimited use). We arrived in HK at midnight after a very nice Qantas flight from Sydney. The food was surprisingly good and the Total Entertainment system is really fantastic. I have been to Fosters Hong Kong Terminal a few times now and its definitely the coolest airport terminal in the world. We got to our hotel around 2am local time after the train ride into town and an interesting discussion with a taxi driver that spoke no English at all.

Emma had this weird need to be at Wellington Airport 3 hours before our flight was due. I say it is weird because for everything else she is normally 30 minutes late. In bigger airports 3 hours is probably a good idea but at Wellington where flights to Sydney are just glorified domestic journeys it was a slight overkill. During the three hour wait at the airport Emma realised she had forgotten her stethoscope. After a kicking herself numerous times for forgetting such a crucial piece of equipment we decided to buy lots of scratch and win tickets with the hope of winning a fortune and negating the need to work while away. Unfortunately Plan A did not pan out so Plan B, getting the stethoscope sent over to England has reluctantly been put into action.

It is 11:30am and not surprisingly Emma has gone back to bed after we went for a stroll around Kowloon looking for breakfast. If you are not used to Asia the initial culture/humanity blast, coupled with some jet-lag can be very harrowing. Our plan for this afternoon is to take a sea-based tour of the harbour which should be nice and a bit more relaxed. Emma has not seen the Hong Kong skyline but after her initial reactions to Kowloon I think shes going to have her mind truely blown away by some real high-rise architecture (not the pieces of junk that dot NZ's cities). The China tour has been confirmed for tomorrow so it will be an early night followed by a very long day tour of the southern tip of China.
