One week to go..

On Tuesday, February 15th 2005 Emma and I depart Wellington on a four month journey to Europe and back. Emma has signed up with a medical locum agency in the UK and will be working as a doctor in a few London hospitals. I am using the opportunity to reinspire myself and provide impetus to my PhD studies. Whilst I am away I will also be doing some software development to pay the bills (isn't the Internet great).

We fly out of Wellington in a weeks time to Hong Kong via Sydney. Emma has not been to Hong Kong before and I have a feeling she is going to get excited about all the shopping but get a little paniced over some of the food. I was in Hong Kong last year for a while and just loved all the great buildings. Unfortunately my stay was marked by the worst case of food poisoning I have ever experienced. I am looking forward to getting back there and seeing more of the city and less of its toilets.
On February 17th we are taking a day trip into Southern China. This will be my third trip into China but my first into its southern region. The very touristy day trip should be fun except for the 6:30am departure time from Hong Kong.

On the evening of the 19th we fly out of Hong Kong and to arrive at Heathrow on the morning of the 20th. A person from Emma's locum agency is supposedly going to meet us at the airport which should be a pleasant change. The last time I arrived at Heathrow I was by myself and had not slept since departing Wellington almost 36 hours previously. In this state I had to navigate the London Underground and Rail systems during rush hour which was an unforgetable experience to say the least.
Once we have recovered from our jetlag we will be flat hunting around London. From a bit of Web research I have found the following flat hunt sites:
London Flatshare, Loot and Flatshare.

If anyone knows of other useful resources or places where we should/should not stay in London drop me a line.

For the curious this is what Emma and I look like in travel mode :-)

Stay tuned for more updates, stories and photos which should come as long as we have Internet access.
